Differences Between Marketing Products and Services
About once a week I hear from someone who says "you always write about how to market a product, but not a service." A few days later I'll get a note from someone else "you only write about marketing a service."
The truth is, there isn't much difference between marketing a product and marketing a service. In both cases your main objective should be to convince people you have benefits they really want and need.
Most sales are based on emotion. We buy because the offer makes us feel more secure, less hurried, more relaxed, or just plain excited.
It's common knowledge that putting a photo of a product in an ad or on a web site increases sales. Services can also benefit from having a picture.
A photo of the owner or person performing the service builds customer confidence. Even a simple shot of hands at work can give a prospect an image to connect with your service--an important mental step for many consumers.
