Everything You Do Can Be Marketing
We often think of marketing as the ads we buy. In reality, marketing is a much, much bigger picture. Just about everything you do in your business, if it is designed to get and keep customers, is marketing.
Your name, your product or service, the color of your package, the size and shape of your package, and the location of your business can all be types of marketing. The more you think of marketing in this includes-all way, the better your business will be at getting and keeping customers.
Recently the office building we were in was sold and we had to find a new home. Since several employees take mass transit to work, they asked if we could find new space downtown where trains and busses are plentiful.
I had never thought of our location as marketing, but it immediately hit me when we moved into an impressive downtown highrise just steps from major dot-coms and ad agencies. Hmmmm. Suddenly we had an additional new source of customers.
Make your marketing vision cover every possible way you can reach, sell, and keep customers: media publicity, the information you give out over the phone, the ease of ordering on your web site, the training you give your employees, the willingness of your sales people to take extra time with customers.
