Is This A Good Time of Year to Advertise?
December is always a confusing time for business people. Retail sales are hotter than hot, yet managers aren't sure other types of customers are ready to buy.
Here is what I have noticed on the Interent. This pattern has been rock steady since 1997 (and that's just about an eternity in Internet years).
For some reason, sales jump through the roof in November. Since most of our clients aren't in retail, it's hard to attribute it to Christmas shopping, but we set records in November every year.
This year was a bit different. All over the Internet hits were way down. Retail stores say they had a similar experience. The general theory is Americans were so interested in the Presidential election they had little time for anything else. Then, just a few days before Thanksgiving, orders started to fly in.
December is good up until Christmas week when traffic on the Net slows to a crawl. January is often the biggest month of the year for education and information products. It is also the best month to promote a business opportunity or self-improvement program.
February is good simply because it is a very slow time for many businesses and advertising is way down. This is a time when you can frequently get great advertising for pennies on the dollar.
